Ever since her first visit to India earlier this year, Pakistani actor Sana Nawaz has been inundated with queries about her Bollywood debut. The presence of Pakistani artists in Hindi cinema is not a new phenomenon, so its surprising that my debut is generating so much attention, says the actor, who will be seen opposite Sunny Deol in director Amitoj Manns Kaafilah.

Sana is currently in Mumbai after completing a 20-day shoot in Bulgaria, Ladakh and Manali. She plays an Afghani immigrant on the run while Deol essays the role of a Pakistani ISI officer.

The actor, who has been working in Pakistani films since the last four years, cannot stop gushing about Bollywood. One thing that impresses me most is the professionalism and no-nonsense attitude of the stars. Sunny had no airs about working with a relative newcomer like me. He was helpful on the sets.

Her film Yeh Dil Aapka Hua (2003) was a blockbuster in Pakistan, but Sana admits that the Bollywood connection gives Pakistani actors an edge in her home country. Its not just about a step forward in your career. Its also about getting more work and adulation back home, she says with surprising candour.

She feels that Pakistani artists are the biggest beneficiaries of the improving relations between the neighbours in the subcontinent. Bollywood is a great platform to showcase talent and I feel grateful for this opportunity.

Sana adds that cultural exchange between the neighbours will enrich both the countries. With Bollywood singers, choreographers and now actors stepping into Pakistani films, the future of Indo-Pak relations appears to be bright, she says.
